The laptop as an economic development tool: the Aurora, Colorado experience

Article Abstract:

The Aurora Economic Development Council (EDC), which has a seven-member staff and an annual budget of $650,000 contributed by both the private and public sectors, serves businesses in Aurora, CO. One of its most useful equipment is a laptop computer, which is used for receiving and giving messages, prospect tracking, word processing, documentation, schedule management, client presentations and trade show tool. The EDC plans to buy more laptop computers and to go into other applications such as full-color presentations and investor services.

Linking Leduc Niscu, Alberta to the information highway

Article Abstract:

The Economic Development Authority in Leduc Niscu, Alberta, has succeeded in connecting the community to the Internet. The link to the Internet is regarded as an important competitive advantage for the area's business community. It was facilitated by Alberta's having an existing modern telecommunications network and enjoyed the support of public officials, schools, health officials and business interests. The preliminary research, design, proposal and implementation of the Internet link are described.
