The phantom of capitalism in Russia (II)

Article Abstract:

This article provides a mostly historical perspective of the economic policies and development of Russia since 1861 when serfdom was revoked, and focusing on the condition of the pre-revolutionary economy. The author contemplates the existence of capitalist factors in 19th century Russia, its state of industrial development and its social structure; Russia is found to be ill-suited to building capitalism and the author suggests it will develop its own society distinct from the West.

This article examines the socioeconomic consequences of post-Soviet economic reforms by evaluating the transition process in Russia, beginning in 1992. Issues include the division of the state and the economy, the formation of the market, price liberalization, the restructuring of the state and the fundamentals distinguishing the market from the non-market.

Does a new financial crisis loom in Russia?

Article Abstract:

Favorable Russian economic forecasts may be justified if proper policies are implemented to prevent another crisis similar to that of 1996-98. The author speculates on the possible trajectory of an economic resurgence in Russia and evaluates the mechanisms of financial crisis.
