The present state of institutional economics

Article Abstract:

The emergence of institutional economic thinkers and schools has been one of the significant development in the history of contemporary economic thought. Institutional economics will become increasingly important because of its subject-matter and policy issues emphasis, as opposed to sectarian questions. The present status, converging interests and possible future of institutional economics are discussed along with the institutional paradigm and its principal features.

The socioeconomic theories of Austrian School economist Ludwig M. Lachmann are discussed. His idiosyncratic approach does not necessarily mean he is nihilist, and that his theories anticipated developments in institutional economics.
