The prestige motive for making charitable transfers
Article Abstract:
There are kinds of benefits that motivate individuals to donate to charities, namely the prestige and intrinsic benefits. The intrinsic benefit comes from the donor's knowledge that he has given while the prestige benefits result from other people's knowledge of how much the donor has given. Moreover, a large number of people are purely motivated by the public recognition afforded by the prestige benefit.
