A comparative analysis of recent economic research works of Ronald H. Coase, with those his works published in the past is presented. According to Coase, the direction of institution is the crucial factor. The concept of institutional direction exposes flaws in regulations and state interventions, whether under socialist economy or under neo-liberalism.

Demographic changes are often presumed to put the future of public pensions in jeopardy. However, public pension finances should be sensitive to employment, wage and inequality growth as obstacles to public pensions are more likely to arise from political developments than from economics trends.
