The productivity of the Dutch labour market in matching unemployment and vacancies: a comment

Article Abstract:

The analysis of the Dutch labor market between 1961 to 1987 used a non-traditional approach to determine labor productivity. The formula considered job-seekers in analyzing the relationship between unemployment and job vacancies. An evaluation of this formula reveals that it was a more appropriate measurement to use in determining the productivity of the Dutch labor market. However, the evaluation also discovered that the predictions made about the Dutch labor market were premature.

Barriers to employment: entry and re-entry possibilities of unemployed job seekers in the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the barriers to re-employment for job-seekers in the Netherlands was presented. The analysis used duration modelsbased on a proportional hazard model with a flexible base-line hazard and a structural model wherein the hazard rate was decomposed into the application rate and the probability of receiving an actual job offer. The results showed that the the low probability of re-employment was caused by the low probabilityof receiving actual job offers.

What can we expect from subsidies for the long-term unemployed?

Article Abstract:

Subsidy schemes for the long-term unemployed will more likely have a limited impact on unemployment in the Netherlands. In a study, a modified version of MIMIC was used to show the difference between short and long-term unemployment. Findings of the study contradict D.J. Snower's conclusion that a subsidy of 50% of the benefits to unemployed would lower the rate of unemployment in the country.
