The roles of different types of health insurance on access and utilization: comparative results on two chronic conditions (hypertension and diabetes type II without complication): how patient economic may influence physicians' prescribing decisions

Article Abstract:

The impacts of having different medical insurance plans on the prescription practice of physicians, particularly for hypertensive and type 2 diabetes patients, are evaluated. It was found that hypertensive patients who do not have insurance other than Medicare are less likely to have medication compared to those who are enrolled in Medicare and in another type of insurance. The significance of having a wider range of drug options in prescribing practices is discussed.
