Internal cooperation and competitive success: the case of the US steel minimill sector

Article Abstract:

The economic viability of steel minimills is evidenced by the fact that they have increased their market share of domestically produced raw steel at the expense of integrated steel firms. The success of minimills was attributed to their capacity to foster labor management cooperation through flexible and participative labor relations systems. Minimills have also developed the capability to swiftly adjust to changes in customer demand due to their flexible process technology and small-scale production capacities.
