Article Abstract:
Effective January 2002, companies in the United Arab Emirates who ignore labor laws will be subject to bans from government contracts and possible cancellation of their license to do business. Violations being addressed by these measures include failure to pay employees regularly or at a rate below wage settlements; failure to protect workers from occupational hazards; failure to furnish required bank guarantees; employing workers not under a company's sponsorship; and failing to cancel work permits at the end of the employment period.
