Understanding why crime fell in the 1990s: four factors that explain the decline and six that do not
Article Abstract:
A review of the factors, which led to the decline in crime rate affecting all geographic areas and demographic groups in the U.S. in the 1990Es, is stated. Factors which appear to explain the drop in crime are increased incarceration, more police, the decline of crack and legalized abortion and other factors which do not affect crime rate such as strong economy, changing demographics, new policing strategies, gun laws and use of capital punishment are discussed.
