Variety store clothing
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom market for clothing via variety stores should grow 10% in real terms during 1995-1999 due to the rising number of consumers aged 45-54 years old. Marks & Spencer accounted for around 64% of the market for variety store footwear and clothing in 1994. Variety stores account for more than 5% of all footwear sales in the United Kingdom, 16% of menswear and 23% of childrenswear and womenswear. Retailers are still having to lower or maintain prices, however, because of low consumer confidence, which affects the retailers' profitability. The market is examined.
