Wan's "new approach" to technical change: a comment
Article Abstract:
A proposal for an algebraic transformation of the accounting identity and the national income as a measure of total factor productivity growth was refuted. The proposed measure is interpreted as a technical change, which refers to the difference between the cost of production using varying technology, because the wage bill and profits depend on the value added. Arguments emphasize that a specification of a production function need not be included in the proposed measure.

Will East Germany become a new mezzogiorno?
Article Abstract:
The comparative analysis of Italian and East German economies showed trends that may indicate that a Mezzogiorno event will not take place in East Germany. The country showed increases in investment and productivity and more flexibility in wage setting. With East Germany's social capability for development, the opportunities for convergence appear to be more positive.
