What happened to liquidity when World War 1 shut the NYSE?
Article Abstract:
The eruption of World War 1 engendered a four-month abeyance of trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The way in which financial markets responded to this cessation of activities at the exchange, which is the longest suspension in the fiscal history of America, is discussed.

An examination of market-order execution quality based on order-based information which adheres to Securities and Exchange Commission Rule 11Acl-5 is presented. Market-order executions on the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq Stock Market are compared.
