Who needs progress?

Article Abstract:

Buying a PC should be simple, but there are always new things and marketing overkill. The market is driven into relentless cycles of upgrading, in the name of progress. The Cost of Ownership debate keeps customers thinking they need something newer to avoid the expense of maintaining a PC by upgrading software and dealing with hardware incompatibilities. Looking for what is really needed is important. The processor, memory, disks, display and keyboard are all things to consider. Checking the small print in a deal is vital.

New technologies bring benefits

Article Abstract:

The networking industry is poised for major changes in new technologies. These include clustering technology, which links servers and allows users to add more power for additional applications or to add extra servers. Clustering systems have redundant configuration, however if one component fails, another takes over, thus reducing loss of an entire system.

Printing over the network

Article Abstract:

A number of personal computers (PCs) hooked up to one printer can help management lower costs, but sometimes the cost are four times as high as the cost of the printer. Conflicting system demands, bad long-term user habits and mechanical problems such as supply and waste levels and broken parts add to the cost.
