Wives' motives and fertility

Article Abstract:

A research effort developed a fertility demand model with a shift parameter for wives' motives. The model is used to test the hypothesized existence of an inverse relationship between a wife's preference for children and her educational attainment. A 1976 mental health survey of Americans showed that wives who are motivated by the prospect of achieving power and affiliation in social interactions with their husbands do not have less education compared to wives with other personality dispositions. These wives also have a tendency to have more children and work fewer hours.

Religion and economic welfare: an empirical analysis of state per capita income

Article Abstract:

An empirical study based on the research efforts of F. Glahe and F. Vorhies uses macroeconomic data to measure the influence of religion as transmitted through both public and private institutions upon economic performance. Various US Judeo-Christian populations and economic performance by state are perceived differently. Reports show the existence of significant interrelationships between religion variables and economic performance.

Gender differences in the long-term economic consequences of parental divorce

Article Abstract:

Gender differences were noted with regards to the long-term effect of parental divorce on the achievement motivation and achievement behaviors of children. The 1976 survey of Americans' mental health revealed that parental divorce increases the achievement motivation of daughters but lowers the earnings of those who work. Parental divorce does not negatively affect the achievement motivation and earnings of sons.
