Article Abstract:
The future for survivors in the structural steel industry looks promising despite falling prices. Production of structural steel fell from 1.5 million tons to 850,000 tons, with prices down 25%, while there are now less than 300 companies operating in the sector, compared to around 450 in 1989. However, the survivors in the industry are now highly competitive and their use of computer techniques, such as CAD, puts them among the most technologically advanced companies in the world. The industry's main aim now is to move towards standardisation of connections.

Article Abstract:
There have been moves to abandon affirmative action programs in the US. The policy was begun in the 1960s to counter racial oppression. There is some concern among black academics that the policy could lead to assumptions that black students and university staff may not have earned their place in their own right.
