AUT and employers square up over pay

Article Abstract:

The Association of University Teachers has been accused of misleading its members with scare stories designed to encourage academics to take industrial action and of "promulgating completely wrong information" regarding the implications of a pay offer and the planned reform of pay structures put forward by the Universities and Colleges Employers' Association (UCEA), according to Jocelyn Prudence, chief executive of the UCEA. The AUT has responded by stating that it is astounded by the UCEA statement. The employers have indicated that they are not prepared to budge over details of the pay deal, which has already been accepted by public sector union Unison, which represents academic members of post-1992 universities.
