As old crew quit, it's not all smooth sailing

Article Abstract:

The inadequate efforts by the U.S. universities to fill gaps left by retiring faculty by recruiting foreign and part-time lecturers are discussed. Though, many institutes are now taking advantage of the vacancies and switching from costly tenured faculty to cheaper part-time or contingent replacements.

US college admits to sex abuse cover-up

Article Abstract:

Church officials at Gonzaga University in the US Pacific Northweat have admitted that they covered up alleged sexual abuse of young men and boys by the Rev Dr John Leary, university president, in the 1960s. Dr Leary was president of the university from 1961 to 1969.

Women lead race to take Harvard top job

Four women have emerged as potential successors to Lawrence Summers for the role of president of Harvard University. If a women was appointed she would be the first female president in the 350 year history of the office.
