Cash cut threat to minority students

Article Abstract:

The Janos Selye University in Komarno (JSUK), Hungarian-language university in Slovakia, risks closure if the special government funding it receives is withdrawn. The new Slovak Government pledged to maintain Slovakia on the path of democracy but the PM also appointed two ministers from the right-win National Party which does not sympathise with minorities.

Prodi government fails to deliver cash

Italy's government has cut university spending and angered academics who feel disappointed and betrayed by the ove. During the April 2006 elections campaign Romano Prodi, leader of the new centre-left coalition government, insisted that education and research were key to future prosperity.

Minister admits funding shortfall

Science Minister Lord Sainsbury has admitted that government support for science departments is insufficient but has said that funding chiefs will not consider changing this until at least 2007.
