Colleges lack cash to deliver quality

Article Abstract:

A lack of money is damaging the quality of higher education courses delivered through further education colleges, according to an analysis of Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) reports conducted by Roger Cook, academic development officer for Napier University, for the Times Higher Education Supplement. The findings come as Calderdale College Corp. became the first provider of higher education services to fail a QAA subject review as a result of inadequate "learning resources", despite having academic standards that were fine. Maria Gilling, vice-principal for learning and achievement at Calderdale, stated that while the college has no quibbles over the QAA's findings, it is frustrating to have to compete with better-resourced universities.

Tory sums 'don't tally'

The Conservatives have already stated that if elected they would halt the expansion of student numbers and abolish tuition fees.
