Article Abstract:

The Commonwealth Universities Congress is meeting at Swansea, University of Wales, United kingdom, in August 1993, and topics under discussion include environmental, social, economic, legal and political issues. The Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) which is holding the conference, comprises 421 universities, which are located in 34 nations from the British Commonwealth. The ACU is based in London, United Kingdom, and its activities include running United Kingdom schlarship schemes, and providing information on university systems in member countries.

Tashkent masterminds

Article Abstract:

An MBA program has been set up in Uzbekistan by the European Union, which has helped with the training of staff for the project. The Tashkent State University of Economics and the University of World Economy are the two universities chosen for this project. The courses are taught in English and case studies are discussed, a move away from traditional teaching methods of lecturing. Salaries for professors are low especially since the cost of living is rising in Uzbekistan.

Superpower legacy 'a disaster.' (racism towards African students in Commonwealth of Independent States)

Article Abstract:

African and other foreign students are experiencing racism and economic hardship in the Commonwealth of Independent States universities they attend. There are some 120,000 foreign students, who cannot cope with the 2% per day inflation rate and cannot afford to return home. There have been sit-ins and fasts to draw attention to their plight recently in Moscow. Their home countries have not offered help, and the CIS is struggling to meet its obligation to them.
