Crisis aid delivery requires rethink
Article Abstract:
Studies into complex emergencies have been undertaken to look at the effectiveness of giving aid. University of Northumbria, Newcastle, England, Development Geographer Dr Phil O'Keefe points out the response to disasters due to war has been the same as for disasters due to natural phenomenon. He suggests non-governmental agencies, such as the Red Cross, are often heavily involved in supplying aid. He notes how the aid givers often have to form a relationship with armed guards. The United Nations can only become involved in a situation when people become refugees outside their own countries.

Survey reveals crisis fears
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom higher education system is suffering from academic and financial problems, according to an academic staff survey. Education is being adversely impacted by lack of student funding and standards are generally declining, claim the academics. Just 10% of those surveyed believed UK higher education standards had risen in comparison with international standards. Only 22% believed students should pay towards their own tuition fees, while 64% believed tuition costs should be met by employers.

Nice place, shame about the people; the Gaia theory over the tyranny of natural selection
Article Abstract:
Some biologists subscribe to the Gaia theory of evolution rather than natural selection. The Gaia theory holds that life on earth and all the organisms here are a single system. The natural selection lobby believes in the 'survival of the fittest.' Those believing in the Gaia theory are seen as being environmentally aware.
