Dark tales from the border

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the work of film-maker Paul Espinosa and they way they explore the uneasy relationship between the United States and Mexico. Espinosa, who grew up in New Mexico and did not learn Spanish until he was an adult, charts the tensions that exist between the two countries in works such as "Uneasy Neighbors", in which he documents the tensions that exist between wealthy San Diego residents and itinerant Mexican workers, and "The Border", in which he focuses on the lives of people living on either side of the boundary between Mexico and the US.

What Europe can do with its feminine virtue

Article Abstract:

Robert Kagan, a US neoconservative and author of the book "Of Paradise and Power: America and Europe in the New World Order", gives his view of the differences between the United States and Europe, US foreign policy and international politics. Kagan argues that, rather than simply drifting apart ideologically in recent time, Europe and the US have been on divergent paths since 1945, with Europe prioritising social welfare and the US focusing on its military forces. It is only recent events that have brought Europe and the US into direct conflict.

At what point to weight the odds?

Article Abstract:

Many universities in the United States are being faced with the dilemma of how to deal with a fall in the number of men applying to study. While some universities operate a completely blind admissions system, others admit that they would take gender into account if the mix of males and females on campus began to drift too far in one direction, despite the legal minefield that positive discrimination represents.
