Darker shade of Oxbridge blue?
Article Abstract:
The Samaritans have been concerned at the rising numbers of young people committing suicide. Some 736 young people, aged between 15-24 years committed suicide, in the UK, during 1997 and of these more than 80% were males. Some observers have pointed out the media gives more attention to Oxbridge students who commit suicide. The number of students who commit suicide is hard to determine therefore a research project has been set up at University College, Chichester, England. Some observers have pointed out students at both higher and further education establishments are at risk.

Europe's social outcast
Article Abstract:
Demographic trends in Britain have diverged sharply from those of the rest of Europe since the 1970s, putting Britain closer to the English-speaking world than to any European group of countries. A research project based at Oxford University, England, shows that Britain has the highest rates of teenage births, divorce and single-parent families in Western Europe. The death rate in Britain, which a century ago was among the lowest in Europe, has only just managed to keep up with the West European average for around 20 years. Net immigration in the UK is also rising.

A law unto themselves?
Article Abstract:
The Women Law Professors Network has been established to try to redress the problem of women law professors being mostly excluded from legal policy making groups. Many female law students find there are no female law professors at their university, with three out of five law schools without law professors who are women. When they go into a law firm they often find few other women. Some female students report they have been sexually harassed or treated unfairly when they are pregnant.
