Doing time for doing good

Article Abstract:

Wintercomfort Former Director Ruth Wyner and Day Centre Manager John Brock have been imprisoned under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. They have been found guilty of not preventing the sale of drugs on the premises of the charity. The charity was set up in the 1990s to help the homeless in Cambridge, England. It gained the support of many prominent academics at the university and money was raised by the students. Many of those involved with the charity are supporting the call to free Brock and Wyner who have been sentenced to four and five years in prison.

Weldon argues that the women's movement shows that, if too much energy is devoted to gender issues, it suits the consumer society.
