Duo win plaudits in race policy review

Article Abstract:

Birmingham University and Teesside University are among the top most improved public institutions for ethnic diversity and race equality, according to a UK-wide equal opportunities benchmarking exercise conducted by Race for Opportunity (RfO), an independent race-equality policy assessment organisation. While the RfO survey has identified changes for the better, a report produced by the Commission for Racial Equality states that, as a whole, the higher education sector is still lagging behind other parts of the private and public sectors when it comes to introducing and implementing race-equality policies.

An examination of the impact that universities in the United Kingdom have on their local economies and communities using Loughborough University as a case study. Loughborough is working hard to convince the local community of the value of expanding its student base, despite its students currently being better known for their anti-social behaviour than for their voluntary and economic contributions.
