Each according to need

Article Abstract:

The long-term goal of Israel's Open University (OU) is to enable hundreds of thousands of students watching a lecture in their own living rooms to give live feed-back to the lecturer. Israeli OU staff explain that the launch of the two-year pilot satellite Ofek in 1995 has enabled students to receive 'the finest lesson' and the 'best lecturer' since lecturers can interact with a number of classes simultaneously. Michal Beller of the Israeli OU centre responsible for the new technology explains that students prefer an electronic lecture by an expert to a live lecture by someone less knowledgeable.
