Flipside of the burger dream

Article Abstract:

Media coverage about life in the US gives the impression that life is very comfortable there, especially as unemployment is very low. In fact, this is not the case at all. In academic life, it is common for people to have to move from one short-term teaching assignment to the next. Many young professionals in academic life are frustrated and disillusioned.

Article Abstract:

Statistics which seem to present strong evidence in favour or against a particular argument can lead academics to make claims which later prove to be incorrect. This can have serious consequences for both individuals and society. It is important to take an overall view, not becoming too wrapped up in individual sets of statistics.
