Gene team detects cancer clues: scientists believe that they have traced a hereditary link to breast cancer and can predict which women can tolerate a stronger blast of radiation
Article Abstract:
Scientists believe they discovered why some women can cope with large does of radiotherapy to kill their cancer, while others suffer damage to their healthy tissues. This followed observations of the rare disease ataxia telangiectasia, sufferrs of which have a 100 fold increased risk of cancer. Radiotherapy treatment made patients worse and damaged cells and researchers found that carriers of the diseased gene are at higher risk of getting cancer. A link between women carriers of ataxia telangiectasia a breast cancer has also been discovered.

Split opinions: while some scientists are excited by the latest research into the causes of schizophrenia, others are beginning to wonder whether it exists at all
Article Abstract:
Research by a principal lecturer in psychology finds no evidence to support the existence of schizophrenia. The lecturer finds no evidence that schizophrenia symptoms have a physical cause and believes that a group of diverse symptoms can be packaged under a single heading. However new research into the causes of schizophrenia is underway with scientists looking at underlying genetics and researchers investing in high tech brain imaging machines.
