Article Abstract:
An attempt by India's Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, to pass an amendment to the prevention of corruption act in order to protect a party member is examined. Mrs. Gandhi's son, Rajir Gandhi, was instrumental in stopping the amendment's passage. A previous example of Mrs. Gandhi's tampering with legal restrictions to aid a politcal ally is described.

Vincent Van Gogh's painting will be on display at Washington DC from Oct 4, 1998 to Jan 3, 1999. The display is courtesy of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam and admission is free. Some 70 works will be on display and will show the progression of Van Gogh's works.

The work of the Meteor project, which aims to get 10 year-olds interested in going to university, started in the deprived area of Middlesborough, England in 1999 and benefited both lecturers and children.
