Article Abstract:
It is questioned whether public schools where a child spends about a third of his waking time, should take the responsibility of imparting character education. Analysis of the question throws up the verdict that public schools must accept the mandate of educating for character and must present students with objective standards expressed in a moral language that sharply distinguishes right from wrong and directs students to behave accordingly.
