Article Abstract:
The South African government is developing its training and education policy and plans a National Qualifications Framework to integrate the two areas. The system will be operated by the South African Qualifications Authority and is welcomed by many universities though there are reservations in higher education. Eight levels of learning are planned from level one involving a General Education Certificate to level eight involving a PhD or masters.

Foreign students flock to study in SA
Article Abstract:
The number of international students in South Africa has risen steadily in the 10 years since the country returned to democracy and an academic boycott was lifted. In 1994 there were 12,600 international students in the country, which by 1999 had risen to 34,800 and to an estimated 60,000 in 2004.

Alpha baboom article leads to libel case
Article Abstract:
Robert Morrell of the University of KawZulu-Natal's (UKZN) School of Education Studies, is suing the UKZN and its vice chancellor Malegapuru Makgoba, for alleged damage to his reputation. The libel case comes after a chain of events startin with a newspaper editorial by Malegapuru Makgoba.
