IIA Conference: 'No Failures, Only Lessons.'
Article Abstract:
Both John Wiley and Sons' Executive Information Service and the BRS-Saunders medical knowledge resources were examined at the Information Industry Association conference. Wiley bundled four BRS data bases into the Executive Information Service. The charge was $100 per month and the system was marketed to business end users. Direct mail solicitation to Harvard Business Review and Boardroom Reports subscribers netted approximately thirty people. However, vague descriptions of Harvard Business Review On-line produced good results. BRS markets a videodisc medical information service. BRS also developed an unusual service which featured text and data from a mainframe and a videodisc image on another monitor. BRS became caught up in its own technology. Despite market research which concluded that visuals were necessary for medical information, BRS successful sold the text-only service.
