Susan Searle, managing director of Imperial Innovations, a technology-transfer company developed by Imperial College, London, discusses her life and work and how she got to her current position in her career. Searle states that she did not intend to become one of the leading technology-transfer specialists in the UK, but that she is fascinated by science-based opportunities and finds it rewarding to see somebody's idea translated into commercial reality.

Trying to refresh a sullied image

Article Abstract:

Activities carried out by the Life Sciences High Level Group in an effort to restore the image of the industry are presented. Particular emphasis is given to the Group's European conference in November 2000 on the subject of genetics and the role of such events in the industry of genetic engineering.

UK universities need to make greater use of the valuable educational potential of museums. Local, national and university museums are all neglected by the higher education sector, while the museums themselves often focus on schoolchildren rather than older students.
