In God, not scientists, they trust

Article Abstract:

Teaching evolution remains a very controversial issue in the US, particularly at school level. Fundamentalists have for many years campaigned very hard against Darwinian evolution, and their case seems to have been strengthened by a deep-rooted suspicion of science, which has led many people to support creationist instruction. Research indicates that almost half of all Americans believe the biblical story of Adam and Eve, with nine-tenths being in favour of public-school instruction about creationism.
