Article Abstract:

Universities in European countries are offering an increasing number of courses conducted in English and this could seriously impact recruitment of students to UK institutions. Germany, France and the Netherlands all offer courses conducted in English and this could be attractive to UK students, thereby also reducing the number of domestic students at UK universities.

Rebels push for vote on Oxford v-c

Senior Oxford University figures are considering a vote of no confidence in vice-chancellor Dr John Hood in a reflection of continuing opposition to his management style. Dr Hood's proposed governance reforms and controversal changes are opposed by some.

The University of the West of England (UWE), headed by Sir Howard Newby, plans a UWE Federation. The aims include focussing more on the needs of companies when training undergraduates, talking to industry about what should be on the curriculum.
