Keele staff face further cuts

Article Abstract:

Keele University has shocked staff with an announcement that it plans to implement a new wave of job losses before the completion of its "managed rebalancing" project, which it launched in February 2003 with the aim of saving UKPd1.5 mil by the close of the academic year. About 24 academic posts in are expected to be go in subjects such as social sciences, natural sciences and humanities in the latest programme of voluntary severances.

Staff see red over online policing

An increasing number of university lecturers and researchers in the U.K. are being dismissed for criticizing their managers through online activities such as blogs and web forums. Union leaders are calling for greater freedom for staff to criticize employers and to discuss their jobs without fear of retaliation.
