Article Abstract:

An analysis of the growth of democracy in Iran and how democracy and Islam co-exist. It is argued that, while the US is campaigning about Iraq possibly being the Middle East's first functioning democracy, in actuality its more liberal neighbour, Iran, could evolve into a functioning democracy with democratic structures operating alongside and with Islamic structures.
