Article Abstract:

Many students in the UK are concerned about how they will cope financially, but they are generally resigned to accumulating large debts. They recognize that qualifications will greatly improve their employment prospects, so are prepared to take out loans to fund their studies. However, some students feel that financial matters can become a great burden, preventing them focusing on their studies. They acknowledge that receiving financial support from their parents can be very important.

Funding is failing the most needed

Article Abstract:

Students at UK universities who are from poor households and therefore most in need of student loans are those who are most averse to taking on debt, according to a report commissioned for South Bank University. The fear of debt may be deterring poorer young people from entering higher education.

Give students back grants, urge voters

Article Abstract:

The findings of two opinion polls conducted by MORI show that most voters want student grants reintroduced. Their views of how tuition fees and repayable loans affect numbers entering university are analysed.
