New Jersey students learn from company employees
Article Abstract:
One of the many successful business-education partnerships in New Jersey could be seenin the cooperative arrangements between Somerset County Vocational Technical High School and Sun Valley Builders, a local construction company. The company provides students with opportunities to learn about the various aspects of the construction trade. It also sends its officials to the school to act as craft advisors. In addition, the company has given students summer jobs and full-timeemployment after graduation. In return, Sun Valley Builders has also benefittedby acquiring qualified employees from the student body.

Thriving with A.L.I.V.E.: students, businesses and community cheer school-to-work model
Article Abstract:
Project ALIVE is a vocational education system in Pasadena, CA, that integrates high schools, postsecondary institutions, the California Dept of Education and local industries. Established in 1990, the project offers a three-year vocational program to ninth grade students who are taught technical courses and applied academics that are credited by California state universities. The program is fully supported by local businesses and industries and awards graduates a Certificate of Mastery, a high school transcript and diploma, a California vocational certificate and up to one year of college credits.

Nontraditional students/nontraditional teacher
Article Abstract:
Clover Park Technical College's Transition to Trades Program was created to offer basic training for women interested in nontraditional careers such as machinist, car mechanic, electrician and welder. Its program coordinator is a female educator who has previously worked as a pipe fitter, welder and heavy equipment operator. She affirms that her former jobs facilitate in helping women enrolled in the program.
