Persuading tomorrow to remember: It is not easy to be optimistic in a world that has slaughtered your family and incarcerated you in the hell of Auschwitz
Article Abstract:
Elie Wiesel is a professor of humanities at Boston University and his book Night, described his experiences of Auschwitz. His latest volume of memoirs All Rivers Run to the Sea adds agonising detail about his father's death. He helped popularise the word Holocaust, but believes it has been devalued by overuse. He is angered that events in Bosnia and Rwanda mean that nothing has been learnt in relation to human rights.

Once a not-so-jolly swagman . . . ; the myths surrounding heroes of the Australian Bush
Article Abstract:
Research done on the Australian bushrangers shows that they were convicts shipped over from Britain who escaped from the penal colonies. The convicts who had skills or were older were generally treated better than younger men. Most of those who became bushrangers escaped after suffering punishments and often had no families or commitments. Often they would be helped by servants and given food and information.
