Portal combat

Article Abstract:

An analysis of how data protection constraints are causing problems for a revolutionary project which will enable every student in the United Kingdom to update and transfer a record of achievement or e-portfolio as they progressed through education and moved into work. The UKPd10 mil project, which is being piloted by the Joint Information Sytems Committee (Jisc), faces legal, rather than technical problems, according to Sarah Porter, programme director for e-learning at Jisc, who notes that the difficulties with the pilot schemes have stemmed from legal difficulties in relation to the movement of learner data between agencies, rather than from technical issues.

The Academic Registrars Council has been urged to consider the creating of guidelines for a sector-wide approach to penalise students who cheat in an effort to cut the risk of inconsistent punishments used as the basis for appeals.
