Science: can it be art?
Article Abstract:
Playwright Tom McGrath and his daughter Research Scientist Julie Webb have won an award, worth 36,000 pounds sterling, from the Wellcome Trust Science on Stage and Screen Awards 1998-99. McGrath took advantage of his daughter's expertise in genetics and his own interest in the difficulties faced by women who want to be scientists to write the play ' Safe delivery.' The play will be first performed at the Edinburgh Science Festival in 1999. McGrath had been interested in the collaboration of science and art but his first two attempts at plays incorporating science were of limited success.
