Solitary cells of scholars cut off by loss of community

Article Abstract:

Many academics are expressing a feeling of severe isolation in their workplace, likely to be brought on by structural and psychological factors. The absence of a staff common room that would enable interaction with fellow academics is a contributing factor to isolation and increasing workloads provided by the target-driven management do not allow time for meeting with others leading to further isolation within the workplace community.
