Squabble delays student tracking system

Article Abstract:

Granted that at least 2 of the hijackers that carried out the World Trade Center came to the US on student visas, US authorities have been alarmed at just how ineffective the US Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) has been at tracking foreigners in the US with student visas. The large-scale deployment of a student tracking system has been delayed by a rift between the INS and 20 colleges involved in its development.

US colleges hostile to data pooling

Universities in the US have rejected a proposal that they share information on student performance. Margaret Spellings, US Education Secretary, wants to encourage universities and colleges to share and publish data on student performance.
