Article Abstract:

The non-mainstream views of Chris Brand, a member of staff in the psychology department of Edinburgh University, have made him the subject of widespread criticism. He has been accused of racism and sexism, and most recently has attracted protests from students about his views on the connections between intelligence and race. He would prefer open debate with his critics, and regrets the fact that he has had little support for his right to express his views.

A bang not a whimper

Article Abstract:

Advice for those planning on organising a conference. Tips include organising presentations properly so that they don't overlap, getting plenty of sleep before the event as you won't get much while it is running, staying off the alcohol, remembering that things will go wrong, and considering getting a professional in to organise things.

Why the academics weighed in with the ad men to confront a growing nutritional concern

Article Abstract:

Nutritionists at Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh, have endorsed Kellogg's 'two-week challenge' diet as an effective way of kick-starting a healthier eating programme. Staff at the college tried out the challenge, which is based on replacing one main meal a day with breakfast cereal.
