Places to unwind the mind

Article Abstract:

A number of academics, including Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, Linda Colley, professor of history at Princeton University, and Freeman Dyson, theoretical physicist, reveal what they do when they simply want to think. Motion finds that a walk on Holkham beach can clear his mind so that he can get ideas for his poems, while Dyson notes that his work on the prevailing theories of particle physics came to him on a three-day bus journey across the US.

John Van Reenen has studied 730 firms in the UK, US, Germany and France and has found that the caricature of the UK as being badly managed is accurate. Professor Van Reenen's main area of research is productivity.
