Visitor quits in union dispute

Article Abstract:

Neil Garnham QC, a leading barrister acting on behalf of the Queen as visitor to the University of Wales Swansea, has resigned in the middle of a dispute involving a staff petition attacking management. The move by Garnham, which is believed to be unprecedented in the university visitorial system's 500-year history, is the latest in a series of events which have arisen out of a conflict between academic union leaders at the university and the university's vice-chancellor, Richard Davies, over planned restructuring and course closures.
