Watching Australia's fee fracas
Article Abstract:
Ron Dearing and Rod West were both asked to find solutions for fast-growing university sectors and diminishing government money when they were appointed to head reviews of higher education in the UK and Australia respectively. However both were mistaken in assuming that their respective governments would recognise the wisdom of greater deregulation for universities. As a result, the UK has a new funding policy that few want and few understand, while Australia's Higher Education Contribution Scheme student funding system may be dismantled altogether.

The magic of myths; Karl Popper believes poetry and science have the same origins
Article Abstract:
Karl Popper believes that poetry and science are linked. His argument says that science begins with looking for truth, not just a collection of facts which may prove useful. Science begins with the exploration of myths. Criticism takes two forms, the type which looks at language and the type which asks if facts can be proven.
