Welsh v-cs concerned about 'cuts' to budget

Article Abstract:

Heads of Welsh universities have reacted angrily to funding allocations for 2004-2005, claiming that they amount to "effective real-term" cuts. In the allocations announced by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, funding allocations across the sector will rise by 3.9%, but quality-based research funding will fall by 6.7%. Article also contains a table listing teaching, research and total funding for Wales' 14 higher education institutions in 2003-04 and 2004-05.

Rees plan to top slice fees

Article Abstract:

A review of student support and fees in Wales is to recommend a "distinctively Welsh" system of bursaries and top-up fees.
